The Christmas truce of 1914

On january 30, we celebrate the School-day of non violence and peace.

More than a hundred years ago, Europe was inmerse in one of the most devastating conflicts of human history: the First World War. Thousands and thousands of European soldiers died in the trenches, far away from home.

In Christmas of 1914, a small miracle happened: French, German and British soldiers stopped the war, exchanged food and souvenirs and sung carols. There was even a football game between soldiers. Unfortunately, after Christmas the nonsense of war continued.

PLOUGH MONDAY

Did you know about Plough Monday? Our 2º ESO B and 3º ESO students have been investigating about this celebration.

The first Monday after Twelfth Night (6th January) is Plough Monday. It was originally the day when the agricultural work restarted after the Christmas holidays.

Ramsey has very popular celebrations. See last year's one!

Molly dance is typical on that day.

In some towns and villages, there are straw bears too, such as the one in Wittlesey.
